Strange engine noises, performance issues, and other problems can develop over time, even with a MINI. Most of these problems are caused by damage or missed services. Fortunately, they don’t have to plague you for long. Your MINI dealer is here to help, as we can repair any engine problems. These are a few potential issues we can fix.

3 Engine Problems You Should Always Fix at Your MINI Dealer

Your Car Won’t Start

When you start your MINI, its engine should spring into action almost instantly. If you’re faced with an engine that just won’t start, the three most common reasons are a dead battery, a worn alternator, or a damaged starter. When you press the start button on your dash, the battery sends a charge to the starter, and the starter cranks your engine into life. The battery, in turn, needs to be constantly recharged by your alternator.

You can identify or discount a failure of one of these components by listening for a slight click when you press the start button. If you hear a click, your starter is working, but not receiving enough power. In this case, either your battery is drained or the alternator isn’t charging your battery. We’ll identify the source of the problem and repair it.

Blocked Air Filter

Your engine requires vast quantities of air for combustion. Combustion is most efficient with a ratio of 14 parts air to 1 part fuel. Once fuel and air have mixed in the intake manifold, the mixture is drawn into the cylinders. Once inside the cylinders, this mixture will be compressed and then ignited to produce the combustion that moves your car.

Air enters your car through the radiator grille and then passes into the air filter. This filter traps dirt and other debris, allowing the now-clean air to enter your engine. Eventually, the filter will become blocked with dirt and cut off the air supply to your engine. When this happens, your engine will suffer reduced performance and additional potential damage from the lack of air. We’ll examine your filter and can replace it in minutes to fix this problem.

Transmission Problems

Your engine and transmission work together to move your car. The engine produces the power, and the transmission directs this power to your wheels to ensure they move at the desired speed. A transmission is filled with hundreds of individual components, and a slight problem with any component can affect your transmission.

Transmission issues can cause shifting deals, unexpected downshifting, or prevent your car from moving. Most transmission problems, contrary to popular belief, can be quickly and inexpensively repaired by our MINI-trained experts.
